Silica Gel Core Features

Chemical stability: Silica gel is chemically stable and insoluble in water and solvents.

Thermal stability: Can be used in environments ranging from -40℃ to 300℃, does not easily decompose at high temperatures, and is suitable for long-term storage.

Recyclability: It can be reused by heating (e.g., baking in an oven at 200°C for 1-2 hours) or by exposure to a dry environment, reducing usage costs.

High adsorption capacity: The silica gel particles have a large number of capillaries and a large specific surface area, which can efficiently adsorb water molecules through physical adsorption (intermolecular forces) and chemical adsorption (bonding reaction). The moisture absorption capacity can reach about 40% of its own weight.

Silica Gel Classification

Based on pore size and application, silica gel particles can be classified into the following types:

Fine-pored silica gel: With a pore size of 20-30 A, it has strong adsorption capacity in low humidity environments and is often used for gas drying, dehydration of organic products, and catalyst support.

Coarse-porous silica gel: With a pore size of 80-100 A, it has a high adsorption capacity in high humidity environments and is suitable for drying, demisting, and dehumidifying gases and liquids, as well as catalyst carriers in petrochemicals.

Type B silica gel: Pore size 40-70 A, adsorption performance between fine and coarse pores, used for general moisture protection needs.

Color-changing silica gel: With the addition of color-changing agents such as cobalt chloride, it is blue before absorbing moisture and turns pink after absorbing moisture, which visually indicates the adsorption status and is often used for moisture protection of precision instruments.

Silica gel for chromatography: Including thin-layer chromatography silica gel and column chromatography silica gel, with uniform particle size (e.g., 10-40 μm), used for the separation and purification of organic compounds.
